Charcoal Artist
Where light, shadow, and memory meet
Carmel is a charcoal artist whose work explores South Yorkshire and English culture through realism, light and movement. She’s inspired by capturing familiar places and moments with a focus on chiaroscuro, using light and shadow to create atmosphere, depth and emotional weight.
I work primarily with charcoal, and I am drawn to the rawness of the material and its expressive and physical ability. My process allows the medium to move across the surface, building realism whilst retaining a sense of energy and imperfection. Through shifting light and deep shadow, my work seeks to hold moments in suspension- where place, memory, and movement quietly meet.
